THE ROLE

Physical Educators at the Royal Military College of Canada are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across the five domains of the Physical Education Program—fitness, sport, aquatics, combatives, and wellness. They are expected to maintain a high personal level of fitness, provide expert guidance to students and staff, stay current with professional standards and trends, and contribute to the development of military leadership through fitness and sport. Physical Educators design and lead fitness sessions, develop appropriate training programs, and administer physical fitness evaluations for Officer Cadets and military personnel in accordance with departmental and institutional policies.

In addition to their instructional responsibilities,



each Physical Educator is assigned a coordinator portfolio that requires specialized subject‑matter expertise. The Physical Educator serving as Aquatics Coordinator oversees all water‑based activities within the Physical Education Program and acts as the Subject Matter Expert for aquatics. This includes maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge in the field, developing the aquatic curriculum and related evaluation methods, managing the budget and equipment needs for aquatic programming, and training staff to ensure aquatic practices and safety procedures are current and consistently applied.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences, or in a related field AND some years of experience in physical education or a related field
- Current Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP - CPT) qualification or Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification
- Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
- Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) qualifications
- Current Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification
- Current recognized Swim Instructor certification
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (ON), an asset

Experience

- In teaching physical education courses
- In evaluating physical education programs
- In fitness program counselling
- In physical fitness testing standards, and evaluation protocols
- In evaluating, planning, organizing and coordinating the delivery of aquatic programs
- In preparing and conducting physical aquatic programs




- In instructing aquatic training sessions
- In budget administration
- In applying policies, procedures, and regulations
