As a Layout Artist at Stellar, you will create clear, production-ready background layouts that directly support the approved staging, camera blocking, character action, and visual language of the show. Working closely alongside the Production Designer, Layout Lead, and broader production team, you will help turn narrative storyboards, dynamic animatics, and 3D shot information into clean, polished layouts ready for the background painting team.
This role is exceptionally well-suited for artists who genuinely enjoy environment drawing, stylized design, perspective construction, composition, and the collaborative process of building strong, cohesive production artwork.
As a 2D Layout Artist at Stellar, your day-to-day work will bridge narrative staging, structural draftmanship, and cross-departmental coordination. Success in this role is defined by three core pillars:

- Perspective & Composition: Develop robust environment structures, prop placements, and background details with an exceptional eye for perspective, scale, composition, depth, and visual clarity.
- Stylized Design Language: Actively support the unique stylized look of the production through clean silhouettes, appealing shape design, correct proportions, smart visual simplification, and strong spatial organization.
- 3D Integration: Work accurately from provided 3D shot references as needed, including camera views, layout renders, block-ins, and production notes.
- Proactive Communication: Communicate layout questions, technical bottlenecks, or production concerns clearly and promptly to the Layout Lead, Production Designer, and production team.
2. Collaboration & Iterative Revisions
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work seamlessly and cooperatively with both the Design Team and Animation Team to finesse layouts and ensure they are clearly understood across departments.
- Solutions-Oriented Revisions: Address design revisions and notes from the Production Designer and external clients with a positive, constructive attitude and a firm focus on practical solutions.
- Embracing Feedback: Bring genuine enthusiasm to our iterative creative process, viewing constructive feedback as an essential tool to elevate the final product.
3. Organization & Delivery
- Time Management: Manage your daily schedule effectively to consistently hit production milestones and steady deadlines without ever compromising the artistic quality of the show.
- File Hygiene: Keep your digital files meticulously organized, properly named, and correctly prepped for smooth handoff to downstream departments.
