Position Summary
Northland Properties Corporation (NPC) is a Canadian‑owned hospitality group. We are seeking a Director, Tax to lead the global tax function across the NPC group of companies. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for ensuring compliance, tax planning, and strategy for all Canadian and international tax matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all tax compliance activities for the Northland Group, ensuring accurate and timely filing of provincial, federal, and global tax returns.
- Lead and supervise preparation of information and direct/indirect tax returns, reviews of supporting reconciliations with accounting records.
- Ensure timely payment of corporate tax installments and manage corporate tax provisions for financial statements.
- Maintain relationships with tax authorities, handle remittances, assessments, audits, and indirect tax compliance.
- Prepare and review taxable income forecasts, tax notes, and required reconciliations.
- Define, optimize, and execute cross‑border transfer‑pricing structures, maintain contemporaneous documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies and identify key tax risks and exposures.
- Collaborate with finance team, external tax consultants, and tax lawyers to optimize tax positions.
- Provide support during annual audits and regulatory financial statement reviews.
- Assist with tax due diligence for acquisitions or current business ventures.
- Stay current on tax law and code updates and support ad‑hoc planning projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Accounting, Legal, Treasury, Data & Analytics, AP, and Payroll.
- Coaching and mentoring of junior staff.
- Drive continuous improvement, automation, and process efficiencies in finance functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. CPA designation preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive tax experience in large multinational corporations.
- CPA In‑Depth Tax Certification (recommended).
- Experience in Canadian tax and accounting, preferably with private Canadian companies under ASPE.
- Cross‑border tax experience.
- Strong financial, analytical, research and documentation skills.
- Strong organization and time‑management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Willingness to learn and passion for process improvements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.
- Ability to train and manage staff.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation Range: $165,000–$190,000 per year.
