About the Role

We are seeking a Prep Cook for The Rec Room Square One in Mississauga, reporting to the Head Chef, Sous‑Chef or Kitchen Supervisor. The position involves preparing high‑quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure kitchen setting.

Responsibilities

- Prepare food items in the pantry, fry, and/or stations according to recipe, portion control, and presentation specifications.
- Set up and maintain kitchen stations following restaurant guidelines and clean‑as‑you‑go requirements.
- Use good knife skills, maintain and properly use all kitchen equipment, and restock items as needed throughout the shift.
- Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, walk‑in coolers, and storage areas.
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
- Ensure quality and safety of food by performing standard sanitary measures and proper storage procedures.
- Work at an efficient and consistent pace, ensuring timely preparation of all meals and correct quantities for daily needs.
- Demonstrate flexibility and volunteer to fill open shifts as staffing varies.
- Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents and adhere to regulations including blood‑borne pathogens, infection control, hazardous materials, and fire safety.
- Serve food at the proper portion size and temperature.
- Arrive on time and perform additional related duties as required.




- Lead by example, eager to learn, and help execute the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED equivalent; professional diploma or food services management preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
- Knowledge of food and catering trends, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
- Knowledge of methods for serving food, principles of sanitation, and safe handling.
- Ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Highly flexible and able to work in a diverse environment.
- Computer literacy (MSWord, Excel, email).
- Attention to detail and superior time‑management skills.
- Strong problem‑identification and problem‑resolution skills.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Work Conditions

100% of the time standing. Occasional exposure to cold, heat, and water. Must be able to transport up to 50lb. on occasion and 35lb. regularly. Constant exposure to high kitchen temperatures. Manual dexterity required for knives and kitchen appliances. Extended hours may be required.
