Intermediate Roadway Designer

Location: Brampton, Markham, London, or Hamilton, ON.

Job Description

As part of the Transportation team based in Ontario, you will design and oversee roadway and highway projects across multiple municipalities.

Responsibilities
Prepare preliminary design reports (PDR), design criteria, preliminary and detailed designs for divided highways, arterial regional roads, collector roads, and local roads.
Develop preliminary designs for CADD staff and review drawings for compliance with applicable industry and client standards.
Create Contract Specifications, Tender Documents, and Applications for Agency Approvals.
Review and issue finalized Shop Drawings.
Coordinate and mentor junior staff within the division.
Liaise with clients, sub‑consultants, contractors, and construction supervision staff.
Assist in the preparation of proposals for future projects.

Experience & Qualifications
Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D. Experience with earlier versions of MicroStation and InRoads is considered.
Solid computer skills with ProjectWise, Word, Excel, and MS Project.




High proficiency using MTO’s software applications CPS and HiCo.
Comprehensive knowledge of MTO and Metrolinx standards, including municipal and regional design and drafting standards.
Skilled in cost estimating, quantity preparation, and specification writing.
Track record of gaining approval for infrastructure designs from MTO, roads authorities, and environmental agencies.
Independent, organized, and motivated team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules in a rapid‑paced workplace.
At least 5–7 years of experience in roadway design.

Salary

Salary range: $80,739 – $107,026.
