About the Role

Join WSP’s Materials Testing team and play a hands‑on role in ensuring the quality and performance of construction materials that shape our communities. As an Assistant Technician, Laboratory , you will support essential testing work that underpins safe, durable infrastructure—while building a strong technical foundation and growing alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Your Impact

- Perform routine laboratory testing on aggregates and concrete in accordance with standard methods and specifications.
- Prepare, label, log, and manage samples to ensure accurate tracking and traceability.
- Operate standard materials laboratory equipment, including balances, ovens, and microscopes.
- Accurately record observations and test results in laboratory logs, templates, and digital systems.
- Follow health, safety, and quality procedures to maintain a protected and organized laboratory environment.
- Support senior technicians and technologists with test setup, equipment cleaning, and general laboratory organization.

The Skills That Set You Apart

- A university degree in Geology (B.Sc.) or Geological Engineering; a college diploma in Geological Technology; a university degree in Engineering (B.A.Sc. or B.Eng.) or a related field.
- Experience with rock and mineral identification.
- Exposure to construction materials testing through academic labs, co‑op terms, internships, or entry‑level roles.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory practices and materials testing equipment used for concrete and aggregates.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with repetitive testing procedures and strong attention to detail.




- Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs as part of routine laboratory duties.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork, with an interest in developing technical skills in construction materials testing.

Compensation

- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $51,800 – $68,600
- MB & ON: $47,200 – $65,000
- NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $46,800 – $62,100
