The swiya of the shíshálh people lies between Queens Reach in Jervis Inlet and Howe Sound on the south coast of British Columbia. Under the general supervision of the Wellness Centre Manager, the Transportation Driver/Coordinator is a conscientious driver who safely and efficiently transports and supervises passengers, maintains the bus and associated records, and coordinates service delivery with all approved families.

This is an on-call position.

TheCandidate

- Safely drive the bus.
- Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers in accordance with safety protocols and passenger health needs, as directed.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, staff and others; provide general information and respond to inquiries of all passengers and their families.
- Design and drive regular bus routes – communicating schedules to families, service interruptions, and/or changes.
- Supervise children and youth as necessary and/or assist elders at some events/outings.
- Perform minor first aid and complete required forms as needed.
- Maintain a record of concerns and incidents encountered during the transportation of passengers, and notify the Supervisor immediately when protected to do so.
- Ensure all licenses are kept valid and current, including CPR/First Aid certificates.
- Report any anticipated late delivery or pickup of passengers to the Supervisor or designate as soon as possible,



and inform the passenger or parent of the change directly whenever possible.
- Ensure only passengers who have been approved are transported to and from their destinations.
- Observe all the road rules, including speed limits and safety regulations.
- Always conduct oneself courteously and professionally.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to ensure availability for occasional deliveries on behalf of departments/or extra runs, and special activities (e.g., field trips/outings) outside normal working hours.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor to explore families' additional transportation needs and how the Nation can respond.
- Support the department's policy development and advocacy work as appropriate.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip safety inspections for vans and buses and report any necessary repairs or concerns.
- Ensure Nation vehicles are fueled and ready for service.
- Ensure cleanliness of Nation vehicles: clean and sanitize as needed after trips; maintain an adequate supply of face masks and hand sanitizer as required.
- Ensure that all vehicle equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines and safety regulations. Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and inspections.
- Follow all COVID protocols and safety requirements as directed.
- Follow the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.

Qualifications,SkillsandAbilities

- Minimum Grade 10 education; High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
- Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
- Knowledge of the community and city is required.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards, knowledge, and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.
- Be able to lift 40 lbs. when necessary.
- Minimum Class 4 license with a clear driver's abstract throughout employment.
- CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Pre-employment physical completed by a family physician or a Nurse Practitioner.
- Must be able to adhere to the Medical Transportation Policy.
