You monitor the conduct of patrons, prevent accidents and respond to emergencies by administering the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the City of Ottawa and of certifying bodies to ensure the safety and enjoyment of patrons in an aquatic environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Student - Grade 10 minimum No related experience is required CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certificatesAODA Accessibility/IASR Training

Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate

Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate

Current National Lifeguard Waterfront certificate preferred

Pleasure Craft Operator Card is an asset

Current Lifesaving Instructor certificate is an asset KNOWLEDGE Must have knowledge of aquatic programs and standards Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers. COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Aquatic Instructional Lifeguarding and Lifesaving Skills Resuscitation and First Aid Skills Ability to operate any required tools/equipment Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage simultaneous demands Ability to work in a team setting or independently Maintain a fun and safe environment Excellent interpersonal communication skills Good organization skills Sound judgment in difficult situations Emergency response skills and knowledge of specialized lifesaving equipment Must be able to relate to children and be a valuable role model Must be tactful, kind and patient Must be calm under pressure Must be creative and resourceful Must be reliable and trustworthy Must be flexible and enthusiastic Must have good written and verbal communication skills Ability to follow verbal and/or written directions/procedures Must be able to work well in a team environment Enjoy working with the public Physically fit Proper attire and footwear Capable of safe lifting techniques WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies.
