Service Manager Heavy Equipment & Fleet Maintenance Location: Mississauga, ON Compensation: Approximately $,+ per year (Based on Experience) Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent About the Chance We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead the maintenance operations of a large construction, transportation, and winter maintenance fleet.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proven leader who combines strong technical knowledge with exceptional people management skills.
The successful candidate will oversee a team of licensed technicians, apprentices, and support staff while ensuring equipment reliability, maximizing shop productivity, and supporting operational success across multiple divisions.
This role is ideal for an individual who has progressed from the tools into leadership and understands the balance between managing people, controlling costs, maintaining fleet readiness, and driving accountability throughout a busy maintenance department.
About the Fleet The maintenance department supports a large and diverse fleet that includes: Construction Equipment Excavators Wheel Loaders Skid Steers Asphalt Pavers Rollers and Compactors Transportation & Support Fleet Dump Trucks Snow Plow Trucks Service Vehicles Pickup Trucks Trailers Equipment Manufacturers CAT Volvo John Deere Peterbilt Western Star SANY The fleet consists primarily of newer-model equipment and supports both construction operations and winter maintenance services throughout Ontario.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and support licensed technicians, apprentices, and shop personnel Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment Conduct performance management, coaching, and employee development Assist with recruiting, onboarding,
and retention of maintenance personnel Shop Operations Oversee day-to-day maintenance department operations Assign and prioritize work orders Monitor technician productivity and shop efficiency Ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and fleet inspections Manage equipment downtime and repair scheduling Technical Support Provide guidance on complex diagnostics and troubleshooting Support technicians with difficult repairs and technical challenges Ensure proper repair procedures and maintenance standards are followed Maintain fleet reliability and operational readiness Administrative Responsibilities Manage maintenance records and documentation Track repair costs, labor hours, and equipment performance Develop and manage departmental budgets Coordinate with vendors and suppliers Source parts and external services as required Support regulatory compliance and safety initiatives Qualifications Required Licensed T Truck & Coach Technician Previous maintenance leadership experience Strong understanding of fleet maintenance operations Experience managing technicians and shop personnel Valid G Driver''s License Excellent organizational and communication skills Preferred 510+ years of maintenance leadership experience Construction equipment experience Heavy equipment maintenance background Snow and ice operations experience Experience managing mixed fleets of on-road and off-road equipment Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of:
Diesel Engine Systems Hydraulic Systems Electrical Diagnostics Air Brake Systems DEF & Emissions Systems Fleet Maintenance Programs Equipment Lifecycle Management Preventative Maintenance Planning While this is primarily a leadership role, the successful candidate must be comfortable providing technical support and guidance when required.
