Role Summary
The mechanical estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate tender prices from available information such as drawings and specifications. In addition to day‑to‑day estimating duties, the role includes coordinating with operations, performing quantity takeoffs, reviewing project documentation, and ensuring comprehensive cost breakdowns for proposals.

The estimator is essential to ensure accurate bids and to support the operations team on active projects. By analyzing drawings, visiting sites, and coordinating with suppliers, the estimator helps the company submit realistic, market‑aligned, and competitive proposals.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, RFIs, and site conditions to identify deviations from the original contract
- Calculate precise material, labor, and equipment costs required for added or deleted work
- Contact subcontractors and suppliers to obtain timely quotations
- Perform quantity takeoffs and enter data into estimating software
- Prepare, review, and submit bid documents to ensure all requirements are met
- Assemble labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing for complete estimates
- Attend site visits and pre‑submissions meetings as required
- Establish strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing
- Critically review RFIs, preliminary designs,
and proposals to support best decision making in consultation with management
Must-Haves
- Post‑secondary diploma in mechanical or construction engineering with at least 3 years of experience in plumbing and sheet metal estimating
- Works effectively in a team environment
- Produces detailed estimates and proposal development for opportunities
- Good understanding of specifications, construction methods, and procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, and multitasking skills
- Self‑motivated, willing to learn and be challenged
- Ability to calculate mathematical extensions and analyze construction drawings, contracts, cost coding systems, and work breakdown structures
- Computer skills with MS Office and familiarity with a computerized estimating system (Autobid Mechanical and Autobid Sheetmetal); an asset
- Excellent organizational and decision‑making/problem‑solving skills

Salary Range
$75,000 - $85,000
