Job Description

Produce Clerk – a position available in an independently owned and operated franchised/affiliate store location.

A day in the life of a Produce Clerk: You will play a crucial role in maintaining a well‑stocked produce department to ensure a quick, easy, and efficient customer shopping experience. Full training is provided for this position.

Responsibilities

- Upholds and complies with company procedures, standards and policies in all situations
- Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner
- Demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs
- Stocks produce and related products on shelves (including frozen, perishable and non‑perishable items)
- Maintains and builds merchandise displays in compliance with Safeway programs
- Rotates product as required
- Loads and unloads product for the sales floor
- Handles backroom and inventory management tasks
- Operates a cash register as needed for relief during peak business hours
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Store Manager

- Ability to learn quickly
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Highly motivated and team oriented
- Clear and concise communication skills (oral and written)
- Works in a safe and responsible manner
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Must be available to be scheduled anytime on Sunday (Alberta Only)

Physical Requirements

- Constant lifting of up to 20 pounds




- Constant reaching and gripping
- Frequent bending, walking, standing, twisting, pushing or pulling
- Occasional lifting of 20–50 pounds
- Occasional computer and point‑of‑sale system use
- Occasional crouching, kneeling, squatting
