RWC is seeking a Health & Safety Assistant to support the Health & Safety Advisor in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment across our commercial construction projects throughout the Calgary area.
This junior position provides administrative and field support for the Health & Safety Program through site visits, safety documentation, orientations, inventory management, COR administration, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in construction safety while working closely with and learning from the Health & Safety Advisor and Health and Safety Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Assist the Health & Safety Advisor with the implementation and administration of the Company's Health & Safety Program.
· Conduct new hire safety orientations for office and field employees as required.
· Assist with maintaining health and safety records, forms, training records, and documentation.
· Support the Health & Safety Advisor with site inspections by documenting observations, tracking deficiencies, and following up on corrective actions.
· Maintain, and update site safety boards and required safety postings.
· Assist Foremen and Site Supervisors with project start-up safety documentation and required forms.
· Support safety initiatives and maintain a visible safety presence.
· Communicate safety information, reminders, and company initiatives to employees and subcontractors.
· Attend site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JOH&S; meetings and provide input.
· Assist with collecting incident documentation, witness statements, and supporting information following workplace incidents.
· Support the administration and maintenance of the Company's COR program, including audit preparation and document organization.
· Support company-wide safety training initiatives and employee safety awareness programs.
· Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation and engagement in safety activities.
· Perform other administrative and field support duties as assigned by the Health & Safety Advisor and safety team.
Skills and Qualifications:
· A minimum of 1 year of safety-related experience.
· Experience in a construction environment is considered an asset.
· Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
· Strong interest in developing a career in occupational health and safety.
· Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
· Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Solid attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and management.
· Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Calgary area.
