The Housekeeping Aide performs a variety of cleaning duties such as damp dusting, dry and wet mopping of floors, floor maintenance and refinishing using appropriate equipment, cleaning & disinfecting ceiling, wall, vent, washroom, bed, furniture and equipment, regular and biomedical waste collection and removal, spill clean‑up, bed‑making, and maintaining overall cleanliness of the facility according to organisational policies, procedures and routines.

About Environmental Services with VCH

Environmental Services works closely with infection control and patient care teams to clean and disinfect clinical and non‑clinical areas, including patient care rooms, offices, washrooms and common areas. Responsibilities include removing garbage, recycling, soiled linen and bio‑hazard waste, vacuuming carpets, cleaning and polishing floors and disinfecting walls and beds, among other duties.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

- Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to organise work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.

Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
