About the Role

The Company is in search of a strategic and commercially minded Head of Risk & Underwriting to lead credit adjudication, portfolio risk oversight, and underwriting operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining underwriting guidelines, lending policies, and credit adjudication frameworks, particularly for B mortgage products. This role is pivotal in the company's expansion into prime lending, and the Head of Risk & Underwriting will be expected to develop and execute underwriting strategies that align with growth objectives, funding requirements, and risk appetite. A key aspect of the position is to build, mentor, and manage a high-performing underwriting and risk team, ensuring accountability, responsiveness, and sound credit judgment.





Applicants for the Head of Risk & Underwriting position should have a minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in Canadian residential mortgage underwriting and credit risk management, with a strong background in alternative, monoline, private, or Schedule I/II mortgage lending environments. The role requires a leader with a proven track record in managing underwriting and risk teams, a deep understanding of Canadian mortgage regulations, and expertise in underwriting best practices. Experience in supporting the growth of a prime lending platform and a background in working with warehouse lenders, institutional investors, or securitization structures is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have a seasoned and entrepreneurial builder mindset, capable of operating effectively in a fast-growth setting, and will be instrumental in fostering a culture of disciplined decision-making, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
