Job Summary & Key Responsibilities Duties include full responsibility for delivery and administration of teaching (lectures and labs course material delivery as per syllabus; exam prep, delivery, and marking; TA supervision; lab material and lab assignment delivery and marking, etc) for PHYC 4550 Synoptic Meteorology II (Winter 2027).

This course continues where PHYC 4540 leaves off, expanding on the practical skills of meteorological observation and analysis.

Emphasis is on developing skills in drawing and interpreting weather maps, and on studying the three-dimensional structure of weather systems.

Satellite and radar remote sensing of the atmosphere is studied in further detail.

Case studies of atmospheric systems and processes are carried out during the tutorial-laboratory period.

Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11:30am to 1:00pm Labs: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:00pm to 2:30pm Reasonable office hours should be available to students.

Position reports to the Chair of the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must be a meteorologist with weather map reading experience and expertise, and have an advanced degree in Physics (MSc or PhD).

Critical thinking skills and relevant teaching experience at the University level is required, as well as excellent computing, organization,



and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, foster student learning, work collaboratively with diverse faculty and students, and contribute to an inclusive academic workplace are required.

Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement.
