About the Role
As a School Age Educator, you will work alongside passionate educators, engaging with children, families, community partners, and coworkers. You will create learning opportunities and build connections in a kindergarten or school-age classroom in a split shift role, with full day shifts during March break, Winter break, PA Days, and Summer Programming. Program hours are typically between 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 3 pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead interest- and play-based activities that reflect children's unique interests to promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Maintain active supervision while engaging in play with children.
- Document children's learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
- Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well‑being of children.
- Assist children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
- Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
- Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive workplace.
- Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training.
- Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
- Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
- 1–3 years’ experience working with children and youth.
- Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
- Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or currently pursuing or interested in an ECE diploma, or holding an alternative childcare designation eligible for Director’s Approval (e.g., Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, or Ontario Certified Teachers – Primary and Junior).
