Job Summary

Primary Therapist

Valiant Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Primary Therapist to join our team. We provide intensive inpatient addiction and mental health treatment to individuals living with substance use disorders, trauma, and co-occurring mental health concerns.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting clients throughout their treatment journey by providing individual counselling, group therapy, treatment planning, clinical documentation, and family support.

Responsibilities

- Provide individual counselling and psychotherapy to clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs, goals, strengths, and clinical presentation.
- Facilitate therapeutic groups and psychoeducational sessions.
- Complete comprehensive assessments, clinical documentation, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
- Monitor and evaluate client progress throughout treatment.
- Provide trauma-informed, person-centred, and evidence-based care.
- Support clients in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, relapse prevention plans, and healthy life skills.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical team, medical professionals, case managers, and other treatment providers.
- Participate in treatment planning meetings and case consultations.
- Provide family support and education when appropriate and with proper consent.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to all applicable ethical and confidentiality standards.




- Support clients in developing continuing care and aftercare plans prior to discharge.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, supervision, and ongoing career development.

Qualifications

- Degree, diploma, or recognized education in counselling, psychology, social work, addiction studies, or a related field.
- Registration or certification with a recognized professional regulatory or certifying body is preferred.
- Experience working with addiction and co-occurring mental health concerns.
- Experience providing individual and group counselling.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, addiction treatment, mental health, and relapse prevention.
- Experience with evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, or other recognized modalities.
- Strong assessment, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional, compassionate, non-judgmental, and client-centered approach.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.
- Current police or vulnerable sector check is required.

Job Type: Full-time / Part-time
Schedule: Day shifts
Location: Carlsbad Springs, ON
Salary: $52,000 - $90,000
