Job Summary

Canwest Tanks is seeking a Drafting Technologist to prepare detailed engineering designs, shop drawings and technical documentation for tank systems and related fabrication projects. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, engineers and production personnel to ensure that drawings are accurate, practical and suitable for fabrication.

This is a permanent, full time, on site position offering 30 to 40 hours per week. The annual salary range is $60,840 to $83,200, calculated using a guaranteed hourly rate of $39.00 to $40.00.

Responsibilities

- Prepare engineering designs and drawings.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and technical specifications.
- Develop and prepare design sketches.
- Produce shop drawings and detailed fabrication drawings.
- Prepare construction specifications, cost estimates and material estimates.
- Write technical reports and prepare project documentation.
- Complete documentation packages and drawing sets.
- Examine drawings for accuracy, conformity and errors.
- Consult with clients, engineers and production specialists to establish product requirements.
- Coordinate drawing revisions and maintain accurate project records.
- Support production and fabrication personnel by providing drawing clarification and technical information.




- Manage multiple drafting projects and meet established deadlines.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering design, drafting technology or a related field.

At least one year and less than two years of related drafting, engineering design or fabrication experience.

Skills and Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of computer aided design systems.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Experience preparing shop drawings and detailing drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of mechanical drafting and fabrication processes.
- Experience preparing material estimates and technical documentation.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
