Job Description

As the Area Supervisor assigned to a large distribution site, you will lead snow and ice operations before, during, and after winter weather events. You will coordinate crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to keep critical vehicle and pedestrian areas safe and operational. This hands-on role requires decisive leadership, transparent communication, continuous quality control, and complete documentation.

Job Responsibilities

- Take complete ownership of snow and ice removal performance while learning and enforcing the site plan, service requirements, priority areas, snow storage locations, access procedures, and site-specific safety rules.
- Participate in pre-season site walks and accurately document existing property damage, access concerns, and operational risks.
- Confirm that employees, operators, and subcontractors understand their responsibilities, and that equipment, de-icing materials, communication devices, and backup resources are ready.
- Respond immediately to mobilization calls, conduct pre-shift safety meetings, and deploy crews and equipment within the required response times.
- Direct loaders, plow trucks, skid steers, sidewalk machines, salting equipment, labourers, and subcontractors throughout each event.
- Coordinate snow operations around shift changes, employee traffic, delivery vehicles, transport trucks, trailers, and active loading areas.
- Prioritize loading docks, trailer routes, access gates, employee entrances, parking areas, sidewalks, accessible parking spaces, fire routes, and emergency access points.
- Monitor forecasts, accumulation, drifting, freezing rain, surface conditions, and changing site requirements, adjusting resources as needed.
- Continuously inspect completed work, correct deficiencies, and ensure snow is stored without blocking critical access, traffic, service,

or drainage areas.
- Coordinate salting and de-icing activities based on actual site conditions, service requirements, and approved application practices.
- Track attendance, assignments, equipment and material usage, service times, photographs, inspections, incidents, and completed areas through accurate and timely documentation.
- Conduct a final site inspection before releasing crews and identify any areas requiring return visits, additional salting, or post-event cleanup.
- Coach employees and subcontractors, address performance concerns, hold the team accountable, and assist with equipment operation when required while maintaining responsibility for site supervision.
