Hours of Work: 8 hrs/wk; 9am-1pm Tuesday & Thursday; following the school calendar (summers, spring break and winter break off).

About the StrongStart program: Strongstart is a playgroup program for parents/guardians and their children up to 5 years of age. Activities are designed to support the success of children when they enter kindergarten.

Contribution:

The Facilitator Assistant works with the Facilitator in service delivery using appropriate program model, for specified group.

Qualifications:

- Grade 12, plus program specific training when required.
- Early Childhood Assistant Certificate or equivalent training working with preschool age children.
- A minimum of 6 months relevant experience working with preschool age children and their families.
- Food Safe, when required.

Job skills and abilities:

- Ability to work in a team environment as a contributing member of that team.
- Ability to provide care and mature guidance to children.
- Ability to work with parents in an educational format, using respectful assertive communication skills.
- Knowledge of parenting education and community resources.

Responsibilities:

- Understand and operate within the program service delivery model.
- Carries out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning,



demonstrating and reinforcing techniques.
- Assist facilitator in ensuring that the necessary equipment, materials and snacks are available for all sessions. Assist with cleanup of space at conclusion of group.
- Purchase snacks for group, when required.
- Provide input in program delivery and/or feedback to facilitator regarding group dynamics.
- Facilitates group song and story times.
- Set up program materials for group, ensures a healthy and secure environment in which the children can interact. Identifies and removes potential hazards.
- Interact with the children and parents in a manner that clearly conveys acceptance and understanding.
- Model appropriate communication and disciplinary strategies with children.
- Attends staff meetings as required.
- Other related duties as required.

- Criminal Record Review.
- Signed confidentiality form.
- Approved reference check.
- Immunization record.
