Position Summary

As an Educational Assistant at Phoenix Private Academy, you will provide one-to-one or shared academic and behavioral support to students under the direction of the Principal, Classroom Teachers, Senior Therapists and Clinical Supervisors/Clinical Psychologist. You will implement individualized programs, manage behavioral support plans, and ensure a safe, organized, and engaging environment for our learners both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic & Behavioral Support:

- Implement academic programming and support learning inside and outside the classroom (including field trips, DPA, and swimming activities).
- Apply Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) principles, including positive reinforcement and token economy systems, to foster learning.
- Run behavioral management programs designed by Senior Therapists and Clinical Supervisors.
- Monitor student progress, collect data, and maintain accurate records of academic and behavioral milestones.
- Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs).
- Provide effective online distance instruction if applicable and necessary.




- Complete learners' communication book daily.
- Refer all parent inquiries to the Classroom Teacher and any new student enrollment inquiries to administration.

Professional & Classroom Duties:

- Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and patient demeanor, acting as a behavioral role model for students.
- Respond effectively to students' physical, emotional, and hygienic needs.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to create learning materials and adapt instructional methods to meet diverse student interests.
- Ensure the classroom remains organized, tidy, and litter-free.
- Participate in supervision duties during lunch, recess, and school transitions.
- Maintain strict student confidentiality and demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and career development as determined by the principal.
- Provide the classroom teacher with input and comments during the development of progress reports, term reports, and alternative report cards.
- Follow policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
- Observe regular school hours (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.), arriving at least 10 minutes early and staying at least 10 minutes after dismissal.

Qualifications & Accreditation

Required:





- College Diploma or University Degree in a related field.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C Certificate.
- Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Training.
- Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Police Screening.
- UMAB crisis prevention training.
- Completion of 40-hour online RBT training during the probationary period.
- Strong computer literacy and excellent interpersonal/communication skills.

Assets:

- Knowledge of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) principles.
- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other special needs.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum.

Working Conditions

- This role involves potential exposure to physical/verbal aggression, lack of privacy, and frequent interruptions from students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Supervision of students is required outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable accompanying students into the water during weekly swimming activities.
- Potential for stress related to reporting periods, end-of-year demands, and clinical/senior staff supervisions and evaluations.
