Nature of the Work & Responsibilities

NATURE OF THE WORK:
The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assisting the teaching personnel in the general maintenance and open studio in printmaking.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Open Studio

Supervise students cleaning screens
Assist students to expose and develop screens
Assist students printing silkscreen projects
Assist and supervise students working on intaglio projects, including printing on the etching press

Classroom

Assist students following teacher in-class technical demonstrations

General Maintenance

Monitor inventory
Verify baumé for Ferric Chloride and adjust if needed
Prepare neutralizer bath for acid room
Prepare aquatint formula as needed
Keep MSDS binder up to date
Cut newsprint (as needed)
Verify and refill silkscreen chemistry (as needed)
Fill solution bottles (as needed)
Tidy and clean all areas (weekly)
Other related tasks

End of semester maintenance

Clean and replace filters on airbrush unit
Clean silkscreens students neglected
Maintenance of etching presses
Maintenance of exposure units and other equipment/tools
Qualifications & Conditions

QUALIFICATIONS:
To have a secondary school diploma (DES) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

CONDITIONS:
Required printmaking knowledge
Intaglio: Copper
Acid: Ferric Chloride
Spray aquatint (Zea Mays formula)
Grounds: BIG (Baldwin Ink Ground) – cleaned with Soy Solve
Inks: Water-based (Caligo)



– cleaned with water
Photo-based intaglio and pre-press
Silkscreen Inks: Water-based – cleaned with Bioscreen, Emulsion: Ulano, Screen: 225 mesh
Films: laser on vellum (Inkjet on Pictorico)
Intermediate English & French language skills (testing may be required)
Knowledge of EPSON printer, Piezography, Direct to Plate (would be considered an asset)
