Role Description The Accountant is a part-time, remote role responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations and ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting. Typical tasks include processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing invoices, reconciling bank and credit card statements, and maintaining the general ledger. The role also involves assisting with budgeting and forecasting, preparing financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, and supporting year-end review and audit activities. The Accountant will help maintain financial controls, monitor cash flow, and collaborate with leadership to provide insights that support strategic decisions. This position requires strong attention to detail,
the ability to work independently, and effective communication in a remote environment. Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in core accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis to support decision-making.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar), spreadsheets, and other financial tools.
Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements;
experience in small business, nonprofit, or research-focused organizations is an asset.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a remote, part-time setting.
Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality in handling financial data.
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; qualified designation (CPA or in progress) is an asset but not required.
Interest in or experience with Indigenous economic development, energy, or resource sectors is beneficial.
