About the Role
GTA Staffing is recruiting an experienced Architectural Technician for a Mississauga-based manufacturer and supplier of high-quality aluminium window and door systems with international operations spanning Canada. This is a technically demanding, multi-faceted role that combines architectural drafting and documentation with project coordination, client liaison, compliance translation, and supply chain oversight specific to the window and door industry.
The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 4 years of experience in architectural design support for windows and doors, advanced proficiency in industry-standard CAD and design software, and a strong working knowledge of European aluminium systems and their application within Canadian building codes and standards. This role is ideal for a self-directed professional who thrives in a fast-paced, internationally connected environment and takes ownership of projects from estimation through to delivery and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Drawing & Design
- Prepare detailed architectural drawings, shop drawings, floor plans, elevations, cross-sections, schematics, and 3D virtual models using CAD software including AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SketchUp, and 3ds Max.
- Create and modify architectural drawings and display models specific to window and door configurations using Orgadata and Logikal software.
- Develop 3D visualizations, presentation materials, and visual aids using Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Review blueprints, technical specifications, and construction documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and building codes.
Project Coordination & Compliance
- Act as a technical liaison between architects and design engineers at the manufacturing site in Canada.
- Analyze building codes, space requirements, site conditions, and technical documents to ensure product designs comply with applicable Canadian standards.
- Translate European aluminium systems and product standards into Canadian building code compliance for residential and commercial projects.
- Prepare construction documents including floor plans, elevations, shop drawings, and cross-sections required for approval by architects, contractors, and builders.
- Compile estimation documents including window and door quantity take-offs from plans, manufacturer quotes, subcontractor quotes, and project-specific tender documents.
- Provide final approval after reviewing all project cross-sections, submit product orders, and monitor production and delivery timelines to ensure adherence to contractual deadlines.
- Prepare technical manuals, product specifications, and project documentation before project commencement and upon completion.
Client & Site Management
- Conduct construction site visits and surveys to gather project information, verify construction progress against plans, and ensure accurate product integration.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, architects, and internal team members throughout all project phases.
- Support client presentations with clear visual aids, schematic diagrams, and technical documentation that communicates design intent effectively.
- Supervise site technicians on product installation techniques in accordance with product technical specifications where required.
- Coordinate across internal teams to ensure smooth workflow from estimate request through to product delivery and installation.
Industry & Operations
- Stay current with industry trends, new materials, and advancements in window and door technology, particularly within European aluminium systems.
- Apply knowledge of international supply chain operations including production planning, inventory management,
and logistics related to overseas import.
- Update and manage project schedules and documentation using Microsoft Project and Office 365 including Excel, Word, Planner, and PowerPoint.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience assisting with architectural design development for windows and doors.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SketchUp, 3ds Max, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Verifiable proficiency in Orgadata and Logikal software (window and door specific).
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Advanced proficiency in Office 365 with particular emphasis on Excel, Word, Planner, and PowerPoint.
- Advanced knowledge of European aluminium systems and the ability to translate European product standards into Canadian building code compliance for windows and doors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Bilingual English/French is also an asset.
- Robust attention to detail and superior accuracy in technical drawings and documentation.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of international supply chain operations related to production planning, inventory management, and overseas import logistics.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence required.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to Ottawa and Montreal for training and project-specific production supervision.
- Self-directed, resourceful, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
