Assistant Head Of Props –Touring Show Stage Carpentry & Props Full-Time Position Please note that this position is for you to tour internationally full-time and to work in foreign countries.

- We are looking for an Assistant Head of Department (“AHOD”), Props to support the operations of the Carpentry & Props team on one of Cirque du Soleil’s touring shows. Reporting to the Technical Director and working under the supervision of the Head of Department, Carpentry & Props, this role contributes to the safe, efficient, and artistic delivery of scenic, stage, acrobatic, and props operations. The AHOD assists with managing the crew, maintaining technical and artistic integrity, and ensuring smooth daily operations on tour. The ideal candidate is a skilled props technician with broad hands-on knowledge of scenic construction, materials, and creative techniques, combined with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced touring environment.

The Assistant

Head of Department, Props will have the prospect to: Support the Head of Department in managing the department during rehearsals, performances, set-ups, tear-downs, and city transfers.

Supervise and train technicians, local crew, and temporary staff; assist with onboarding and documentation.

Act as interim Head of Department when required.

Operate carpentry and props tracks during rehearsals, performances, and training sessions; run show cues as needed.

Inspect, maintain, alter, and repair scenic elements, stage equipment, props, puppets, and specialty items; ensure all work aligns with artistic concepts.

Work with diverse materials including wood, metals, plastics, fiberglass, foams,



and fabrics; apply skills in scenic painting, molding, mixing paints, adhesives, sculpting, gluing, and repair.

Execute and maintain specialty techniques such as fiberglass work, puppetry, animatronics, and mechanical or pneumatic elements used in props and scenic equipment.

Maintain and update departmental documentation including inventories, cue sheets, maintenance logs, safety records, and customs documentation.

Assist with ordering, sourcing, and maintaining supplies, consumables, and props equipment.

Participate in the construction, refurbishment, and integration of new scenic elements and props.

Supervise and participate in load-ins, set-ups, strikes, and load-outs of scenic and props equipment.

Ensure safety of all stage, scenic, and props operations at all times; enforce compliance with Cirque du Soleil protocols, OSHA, and local safety regulations.

Collaborate closely with the Artistic and Design teams to uphold the original vision of props and scenic elements.

Contribute to contingency planning to ensure uninterrupted show operations in the event of equipment or props failures.

Foster a collaborative, respectful, and safe working environment aligned with Cirque du Soleil’s values.

Perform other related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:



Required: Availability to tour internationally full-time and work in foreign countries.

College diploma in live entertainment, theatre production, or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum 3 years of professional experience in scenic carpentry and props within large-scale productions; touring experience strongly preferred.

Hands-on expertise with woodworking, stage construction, scenic panel repair, fiberglass, molding, painting, adhesives, and sculpting.

Experience with puppetry, animatronics, and specialty props construction.

General knowledge of technical production elements across multiple disciplines.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS) is an asset.

Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills with the ability to work well under pressure.

Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
