Business Intelligence Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst

Pay Rate: $62.00–$75.00/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 1 year

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (Hybrid)

Raise is currently hiring a Business Intelligence Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to support business improvement initiatives, making this a unique opportunity to establish and mature a formal quality assurance function supporting enterprise reporting and analytics solutions. Our client, a partnership of 12 municipalities – one Electoral Area and one treaty First Nation, collaboratively plans for and delivers regional‑scale services with its core services being drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst will provide quality assurance services supporting enterprise reporting, business intelligence, and analytics initiatives. This role will establish and maintain QA standards, methodologies, governance processes, and testing frameworks for Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and related analytics products. Working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, the successful candidate will ensure reporting solutions are accurate, reliable, auditable, and aligned with operational, compliance, resource planning, and performance management objectives.

Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Testing

- Develop and execute QA strategies, test plans, test cases, regression test suites, and release checklists for Power BI reporting solutions.
- Perform functional, regression, and end‑to‑end testing across dashboards, reports, semantic models, and analytics solutions.




- Validate source‑to‑report data accuracy to ensure reporting outputs support operational decision‑making and regulatory compliance.
- Establish and maintain formal QA gates and release governance processes prior to production deployment.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects using Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools.
- Validate defect fixes and confirm resolution before production releases.

Data Validation & Analytics

- Validate data integrity, completeness, consistency, and traceability across SQL databases, ETL pipelines, semantic models, and Power BI reports.
- Assess downstream impacts of data model changes on reports, dashboards, and analytics products.
- Review business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and reporting specifications to ensure they are complete, testable, and aligned with business objectives.
- Validate dashboards and reports against approved business rules, operational processes, compliance requirements, and KPI reporting standards.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying data quality issues, reporting gaps, and opportunities for process optimization.

Process Improvement

- Develop reusable testing assets, regression suites, validation scripts, QA templates, and standardized testing methodologies.
- Recommend opportunities for test automation and process improvements to improve delivery quality and efficiency.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to support successful solution delivery.
- Provide QA documentation, release recommendations, and quality reporting throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications





- Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Business Systems, or related IT roles.
- Solid experience testing Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
- Experience performing SQL data validation and querying.
- Strong understanding of data validation methodologies and testing best practices.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar test management and defect tracking tools.
- Experience validating data from SQL Server databases, ETL pipelines, semantic models, and reporting environments.
- Strong understanding of dimensional data modeling, including Star Schema and Snowflake Schema.
- Experience with data profiling, data quality assessment, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience using Power Query (M).
- Knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions).
- Experience assessing downstream impacts of semantic model changes.
- Experience supporting business intelligence, analytics, or enterprise reporting initiatives.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.

Education & Certifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Quality Assurance, Agile, Scrum, or Business Intelligence certifications are considered assets.
