Purpose of the Role
Procurement is defined as the sourcing, negotiation, and purchasing of goods, materials, equipment, and services required to support the company's operational and project requirements. The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services while maintaining quality standards, supplier relationships, and continuity of supply. This role supports construction operations and projects throughout Western Canada by collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
Be an active participant in SB Canada's Health and Safety Program, helping to foster a positive safety culture as we continue to move from compliance to care.
Purchase goods, materials, equipment, and services in line with project requirements, company standards, and cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
Follow the 5 R's of Purchasing Principles: Right Quality, Right Quantity, Right Price, Right Vendor, and Right Delivery Time.
Collaborate with Project Managers, Operations, Estimating, Finance, and other internal stakeholders to ensure purchasing activities align with project schedules and operational requirements.
Source and evaluate new suppliers, obtain quotations, negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules, and establish strong vendor relationships.
Act as the primary liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding purchasing activities, project requirements, and supply-related matters.
Prepare, issue, and maintain Purchase Orders while ensuring proper approvals and accurate documentation.
Expedite orders and coordinate with suppliers to ensure materials, equipment, and services are delivered in accordance with project schedules.
Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve issues related to pricing, quality, delivery, service levels, and invoicing.
Conduct supplier assessments and contribute to supplier performance reviews to ensure compliance with contractual and operational expectations.
Monitor market trends, supplier capabilities, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments to identify opportunities and risks.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and increased efficiency within the procurement and supply chain functions.
Review purchasing activities and recommend improvements to procurement processes, procedures, and business practices.
Maintain accurate vendor records, pricing agreements, procurement documentation, and purchasing data within company systems.
Support inventory management activities by monitoring stock levels, usage trends, inventory requirements, and replenishment needs.
Coordinate logistics and transportation arrangements to support project and operational requirements.
Assist project teams with sourcing materials, equipment, subcontractors, and specialized services as required.
Review and reconcile invoice discrepancies and work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve issues.
Prepare purchasing reports, cost analyses, supplier performance metrics, and other procurement-related information as required.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders while ensuring a professional and consistent approach to all supplier interactions.
Ensure compliance with company policies, purchasing procedures, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement processes, supplier performance, and overall supply chain effectiveness.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
Education: Certificate or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or materials management.
Experience supporting construction, engineering, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.
Experience sourcing materials, equipment, and services while managing supplier relationships and purchase orders.
Experience coordinating deliveries, tracking orders, and resolving supplier-related issues.
Experience working with project teams, operations personnel, and vendors in a fast-paced environment. Soft Skills:

Experience creating and managing purchase orders, vendor records, and procurement documentation.
Knowledge of purchasing principles, contract terms, supplier management, and inventory control.
Experience obtaining and evaluating quotations, negotiating pricing, and managing supplier performance.
Familiarity with construction materials, equipment, and services procurement processes.
Experience preparing purchasing reports, cost analyses, and spend tracking information.
Knowledge of supply chain, logistics, and transportation coordination is considered an asset.
Required
Designations or Certifications
Valid driver's licence.
