Active Lives Canada is a supportive and collaborative organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with developmental exceptionalities. We provide community-based programs and respite services that focus on promoting independence, inclusion, and overall well-being.

We are currently seeking a Respite Support Worker with DSW, PSW, or CYW credentials to provide both day and overnight crisis respite care to individuals with developmental exceptionalities. Supports are offered in our residential respite homes or directly in clients’ home settings.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, reliable, and mature professional who is passionate about supporting neurodiverse individuals and helping them thrive in a protected and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide exceptional care and supervision, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all residents.
- Assist with daily living activities including hygiene, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
- Follow established behaviour and care plans, using proactive and preventative approaches.
- Support residents in participating in meaningful recreational, educational, and community-based activities.
- Encourage the development of life skills, independence, and self-help abilities.
- Foster positive and respectful relationships among residents, staff, and families.
- Prepare meals and snacks following dietary restrictions and meal plans.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety throughout the home, including laundry and room safety checks.




- Administer medications in accordance with agency and family instructions, completing all related documentation.
- Complete all required documentation including incident reports, communication logs, and body scans.
- Collaborate with co-workers to ensure teamwork, consistency, and high-quality care.
- Participate in mandatory training and workshops.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety and organizational policies.

Qualifications

- Diploma or certificate in Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Child & Youth Worker (CYW), or Personal Support Worker (PSW) from a recognized college.
- Experience working or volunteering with individuals who have developmental exceptionalities.
- Experience in group settings such as day programs, schools, daycares, or assisted living environments.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- 2-part TB test and Hepatitis B immunization.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (NVPCI) certification.
- Medication/Pharmacology training is an asset.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License (willingness to drive clients to appointments and community activities is an asset).

Shifts Available

- Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Evening Shift: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Night Shift: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM

Job Type: Casual Pay: $21.00 per hour
