Position Vacancy: Adult In-Patient Mental Health Program (1F) Position: Part Time Clinical Assistant 6 (UNIFOR Service 6) Hours of Work: 2D2N Location: WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital, KW Campus) Position Summary Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit has exciting opportunities for Clinical Assistants interested in starting or developing a career in MENTAL HEALTH. Full paid orientation is provided & educational support is available. Guided by recovery principles, the Clinical Assistant promotes healing and instills hope while demonstrating the values of the Mental Health and Addictions Program.

The duties will include Clinical Support, such as assisting patients with basic personal care needs, transporting patients by wheel chair and stretcher, escorting patients into exam/interview rooms or other diagnostic tests, cue hourly checks, stocking medication/supply rooms, taking the patient’s height and weight and documenting the care given accordingly. Contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.



Assisting with appropriate levels of supervision of patients such as constant care Position Requirements Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program or completion of a 1st year nursing program (BScN or Practical Nurse) from an accredited college or university

CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level and Standard First Aid

Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care

Ability to empathize with patients and family members

Minimum of two years of related experience in a health care setting

Previous experience with Mental Health Clients preferred

Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment

Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment

Capable of working independently and able to take direction

Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it relates to patients in the Inpatient setting

Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an workplace conducive to excellent patient care
