POSITION SUMMARY In addition to performing the duties of the CPIC Operators (maintaining entries on the CPIC system via the Versadex user interface and CPIC web application and monitoring of narrative traffic messages), the CPIC Platoon Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the CPIC Operators, while ensuring the efficient operation of an entire platoon.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Complete annual performance reviews for platoon members.
2. Complete Kronos time and attendance entries and coordinate platoon staffing requirements (e.g., assign lunch hours, prepare, and maintain the annual leave, holiday, and float time schedules).
3. Update and/or remove various flag records, templates, etc. and manage Provincial and Zone Alerts.
4. Liaison for NRPS & Hamilton PS Agreement for the Provision of Canadian Police Information Centre Mutual Aid.
5. Query, add, modify, and remove records on the CPIC system in relation to: Person Files (e.g., wanted, missing, accused, court action, order, special interest police), Vehicle Files (e.g., stolen, recovered, special interest police), Marine Files (e.g., stolen, recovered, special interest), Property (e.g., stolen, lost, recovered) including firearms.
6. Verify and validate CPIC entries to ensure accuracy and maintain the integrity of the CPIC system.
7. Send, receive, and disseminate narrative traffic messages to other police agencies, including Zone and Provincial Alerts.
8. Record Suspensions and Impoundments utilizing the Ministry of Transportation Suspension & Impoundment Management.
System (SIMS). Query registered owners and vehicle/driver history information through the Police Automated Registration Information Service (PARIS).
9. Respond to inquiries from public, outside agencies, external police agencies, and internal calls from Civilian and Uniform members relating to CPIC and police contact information. Liaise with the Provincial Court personnel.
10. Monitor, retrieve, and transcribe General Occurrence Reports, Supplementary Reports, CRC Reports, tickets, street checks, follow-ups, and online reports from the Transcription queue within Versadex.
11. Perform Commissioner of Oath duties for the Niagara Regional Police Service.
12. Submit requests for off-line searches in the absence of CPIC Audit Clerks.
13. Maintain accurate and current information in the Master Name Index and Known Offender module within Versadex and Core Records on the CPIC system. Maintain the integrity of the Master Name Index, Master Vehicle Index, and Master Business Index within Versadex by identifying and preventing duplicate entries and performing address verification.
14. Conduct nightly browse through property module within Versadex to identify property with serial numbers not added to CPIC; add outstanding property to CPIC.
15. Responsible for processing all flag record requests.
16. Responsible for processing all hot list requests associated with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system
17. Contact RCMP help desk to confirm problems with CPIC lines when necessary and notify Service units as required.
18. Other duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Required Education, Experience, etc.)
- High school diploma plus completion of up to one (1) year of relevant post-secondary courses (e.g., business, software, etc.) plus a minimum of four (4) years CPIC Operator experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of the CPIC Maintenance Course through the RCMP (pre-hire) and the Records and CPIC Advanced course through the Ontario Police College (post-hire).
- Exceptional attention to detail and concentration; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective interpersonal, listening, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to probe for details where required.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changes in policies and procedures within the Service.
- Experience overseeing the performance of a person or group, program,
project, or process.
- Comprehensive knowledge of MS Office programs and in-house systems which includes: Versadex, CPIC, NORA, ECM, etc.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 40 wpm).
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Extended periods of visual concentration required when using computer.
- May require extended periods of keyboard and mouse use.
- Mental concentration and attention to detail is required to ensure the accuracy of CPIC records.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Normal office environment.
- May be exposed to disturbing graphic/written materials.
- May be required to manage multiple deadlines and/or urgent assignments.
- Work may be subject to interruptions.
- Considerable telephone and electronic communication with Service personnel, approved outside agencies (e.g., other Police Services, Ontario Court of Justice staff, etc.) and members of the public.
- Follows 12-hour shift rotation.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY
- Direct supervision of the CPIC Operators assigned to Platoon.

- Must be versatile to support a 24/7 operation and work in a variety of units at all NRPS locations across the Niagara Region
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check including police checks with local, provincial and out-of-country law enforcement agencies
- Valid class “G” driver’s license and acceptable 5-year driver’s abstrac
- Satisfactory professional references
