We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our Airline Operations team at the Calgary office, located at the YYC airport. Reporting directly to the Airline Ops Integrations Team, this role is pivotal in building and maintaining critical software applications and integrations that ensure seamless airline operations.

The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous approach to data quality, a passion for programming—particularly in Python—and a drive for delivering high-quality results. This position involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to develop robust data pipelines, optimize data processing workflows, and support the organization’s strategic goals through effective data management. The successful candidate will have a significant impact on data-driven decision-making processes and operational efficiency across the organization.





Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field ~5+ years of experience working in large‑scale data warehouse environments ~ Proven experience in building critical real‑world solutions within airline, transportation, logistics, or similarly complex industries ~5+ years of demonstrated SQL development expertise ~3+ years of Data Warehouse experience in project settings ~2+ years of experience developing data pipelines and Data Lake/Lakehouse solutions using Apache Spark/PySpark, preferably with Databricks or similar platforms ~ Certifications in Azure Data Engineering or Snowflake are considered advantageous ~ Proficiency in data dimensional modeling, data analysis, and data mining techniques ~ Expertise in SQL scripting, window functions, and query optimization ~ Experience with custom file formats, ingestion monitoring, and automation tools ~ Knowledge of handling PII data, data masking, and security by design principles ~ Experience with cloud data migration, multi‑source ingestion, and enterprise data warehousing solutions like Snowflake and WhereScape ~ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Bash,



and PowerShell ~ Experience with Jira or Azure DevOps for project management ~ Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non‑technical stakeholders ~ Ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects effectively Participate in development planning and execute engineering tasks aligned with the overall Data Delivery strategy Apply established data engineering standards and ensure compliance across projects Utilize approved programming tools and techniques, providing technical support for existing systems Design, implement, and test cloud computing solutions using Snowflake and other cloud platforms Develop and monitor distributed data processing pipelines using Apache Spark within Databricks Write clean, efficient Python code for data ingestion, transformation, and automation tasks Set up manual and automated testing frameworks to validate data processes Lead workshops, presentations, and training sessions to enhance team skills and knowledge Collaborate with operational teams to ensure supportability and provide technical assistance for new features and applications Maintain effective communication with stakeholders regarding project progress, issues, and feedback Travel privileges for employees and their families from the start date Flexible savings and benefits programs tailored to individual needs We encourage those with disabilities or special needs to request accommodations at any stage of the recruitment process by contacting our Talent Acquisition team at talent@westjet.
