Overview

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Directional Drill Operator to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground conduit and fiber optic infrastructure in urban and municipal environments.

This role requires a high level of skill, precision, and knowledge of underground utilities to ensure secure and efficient installations.

Duties

- Minimum 3+ years of experience operating directional drills (HDD)
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction and locates
- Valid driver’s license (DZ or AZ considered an asset)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and bore profiles
- Experience working in urban environments and tight right-of-way conditions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

- Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment such as horizontal drills (horizontal directional drilling), excavators, loaders, backhoes,



dozers, graders, and paving machinery.
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly and effectively.
- Familiarity with construction site safety practices and procedures.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred for transporting equipment or materials between sites.
- Strong understanding of construction processes related to utility installation and underground infrastructure projects.
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret project plans accurately.
- Prior experience in telecommunications or utility construction is highly desirable.
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Early start times (typically 7:00 AM)
- Travel to various job sites across the GTA
- Physically demanding role involving lifting, bending, and extended standing

Lunia members preferred, must be willing to join the union. Pay: $30.00 per hour
