PhD Opportunity – Catalytic Pyrolysis for Hydrogen Production from Plastic Waste The University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR), in collaboration with a research center and an industrial partner, is recruiting a PhD candidate to join an interdisciplinary project on developing a catalytic pyrolysis process for non‑recyclable plastic waste.

The goal: producing hydrogen‑rich syngas to support the clean energy transition. Project highlights

Development of a kinetic model for catalytic pyrolysis of plastic waste

Reactor‑scale modeling and multiphase flow simulations

Hands‑on work with a quick pyrolysis unit (40 tonnes/day capacity)

Collaboration with industry and research partners

Candidate profile

Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields

Strong background in reaction engineering, kinetics, and transport phenomena

Programming skills (Python, MATLAB)



and experience with COMSOL/ANSYS

Research experience in pyrolysis or thermal decomposition

Excellent communication skills (English required; French is an asset)

Language proficiency Applicants must provide proof of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS) or French (recognized tests such as TEF, TCF, DELF B2+, DALF C1, or Bright Language ≥ 3.5).
