Position: Family Care (Support) Worker

Department: Health & Social Services Department

Reports to: Health & Social Services Manager

Compensation: $28-$35 (based on education and experience)

Hours: Full-time

T'ít'q'et Administration is committed to fostering community wellbeing and supporting our most vulnerable community members. Due to an urgent staffing need, we are seeking dedicated and energetic individuals to provide essential family services to our T'ít'q'et community.

POSITION SUMMARY

Working within the context of the client-centered, family focused vision, and trauma informed goals of T’it’q’et, this position provides culturally appropriate support designed to address the well-being of T’it’q’et children and families; provides caring support to families in creating strong, healthy, and happy relationships. May facilitate and/or supervise access visits for children in care. Liaises with the Ministry of Child and Family and/or First Nations delegated authorities according to our Protocols.

Fosters T’it’q’et's wellness paradigm through Team approach and programming for youth and families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Participate in family meetings, case planning meetings, and court related hearings, case conferencing, contested hearings, mediations, and trials primarily in the local registry jurisdiction.

· As Family Support worker, this position is a Party to the court systems. Assist families with their working relationships with MCFD, FN Delegated Authorities, and navigating the court systems, and ensure that schedules are set for visits and access.

· Support families that are going through child welfare processes, with the goal to advocate for families to reunite with all parties working together. However, where “child is at risk”, we cannot intervene or interfere, but support families during the process.

· Meet with caseworkers on a regular basis for band consults.

· Attend visits, in-person while a child welfare worker is in the home.

· Participate in,



and support the decision-making processes for permanency, extended family planning, adoptions, and aging-out for current children and youth in care.

· Research and identify T’it’q’et temporary foster care homes and coordinate for MCFD standards for temporary care homes.

· Support and/or coordinate family and/or community wellness events related to T’it’q’et wellness paradigms, life skills workshops, grief and loss workshops, trauma workshops, family or youth counselling sessions, etc.

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

· Post-secondary education in social work, human services, or related field (diploma, degree, Masters).

· Minimum of 2-3 years experience working in Social Works or social services.

· Registered social worker preferred

· Valid BC driver’s license with driver abstract is required

· Must have reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage for passengers.

· Ability to work in dynamic workplace dealing with difficult emotional and critical issues.

· Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Excellent time management, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple concurrent issues and deadlines,

· Demonstrated experience interacting sensitively with traumatized individuals and addressing crisis appropriately.

· Some after hours or weekend hours may occur
