Role Description

The Financial Controller position at Northwood Group is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The Financial Controller will oversee the financial operations of Northwood Group and its various business divisions, including medical clinics, recovery services, pharmacy operations, and other related entities. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely financial reporting across the organization.

Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial statements, managing general ledger activities, overseeing accounts payable and receivable processes, and supporting month-end and year-end financial close. The Financial Controller will also lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow monitoring, variance analysis, and financial performance reporting.

The role will work closely with senior leadership and operational managers to provide clear financial insights, support strategic decision-making, and improve financial accountability across the group.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating with external accountants and auditors, maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements, strengthening internal controls,



standardizing financial processes across business divisions, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and financial performance.

The Financial Controller may also supervise and mentor accounting and administrative staff, support payroll and financial system improvements, and assist with financial due diligence, new business initiatives, clinic expansions, and organizational growth projects.

Qualifications

- Strong experience in finance, accounting, and the management of day-to-day financial operations.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements and management reports.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, variance analysis, and financial planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial information into practical business recommendations.
- Post‑secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- A CPA designation, or progress toward a CPA designation, is considered a solid asset.
- Experience with accounting software, ERP systems, payroll platforms, and financial reporting tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall computer skills.
- Experience managing financial operations across multiple companies, locations, departments, or business divisions is an asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, taxation, payroll requirements, and regulatory obligations applicable to Ontario-based organizations.
- Experience in healthcare, medical clinics, pharmacy, recovery services, or multi-location operations is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative, on-site environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work with operational teams, management, external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
