Role Description The Java Specialist will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of Java-based applications and services that support Minnesota Crossroads’ digital programs and participant resources. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new features, refining existing code, and ensuring application performance, reliability, and security. The role involves collaborating with other team members or volunteers to translate functional requirements into technical solutions, applying modern design practices and frameworks.

This is a part time, remote role, offering flexibility in scheduling while requiring consistent communication and timely delivery of assigned tasks.

Qualifications

Strong foundation in Software Development and Programming, with practical experience building and maintaining Java applications.

Proficiency with Jakarta EE or similar Java enterprise frameworks,



including experience developing web or enterprise-level solutions.

Hands-on experience designing and implementing Microservices architectures, including service integration and API development.

Applied knowledge of Design Patterns to create maintainable, scalable, and testable software solutions.

Familiarity with modern development tools and practices (e.g., Git, CI/CD, unit testing, code review).

Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Relevant education or certifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields are beneficial.

Experience in mission-driven or non-profit environments and an interest in supporting individuals in career transition is a plus.
