In this role, you will lead programs, projects and initiatives that advance the service-based approach to planning and budgeting at The City of Calgary. This position is associated with work that is high-profile and deadline driven in an ambiguous environment. As such, applicants should be prepared for a position that is fast-paced and high intensity.

As a Leader in the Business Planning division, you will provide leadership to a team that advances and coordinates business planning and budget adjustments across the organization. A key part of your role will be facilitating agreement among partners to ensure the workstreams required for the success of this work are aligned and coordinated including:



citizen research and engagement; Council and Administration priority-setting; economic and financial forecasting; service planning and budgeting; capital budgets and their alignment to services; service improvement; performance measurement, benchmarking and reporting; risk management; internal and external communications; change management; and developing our service-based approach. All of this work must be completed with an understanding of the Council and public interest in, and attention to, the Service Plans and Budgets and their associated policies.

Primary duties include

- Work across The City of Calgary to provide clarity on key corporate initiatives and ensure they are delivered on time and at a high level of quality.
- Lead programs, projects and initiatives, including The City's Service Plans and Budgets and the annual adjustments to them, from start to finish. Develop and deliver concepts, materials, guidance, and templates to provide a comprehensive view into the corporation through dashboards, presentations and reports to the Executive Leadership Team and Council/Committees of Council.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external partners to gain cross-functional strategic perspectives and develop service-specific and/or functional knowledge.

Qualifications





- A master's degree in a related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience in strategic planning, budgeting, public policy analysis or related areas in large public sector organizations.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Experience in corporate and/or business planning is required.
- Formal or informal supervisory or leadership experience will be considered an asset.
- Experience in dynamic, fast-paced environments is essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills are required, with an established record of collaboration across diverse internal partner groups.
- Strong communication skills; critical thinking; ability to work in a highly politicized environment; project team leadership; knowledge of public policy and management; and public and business acumen are required.

Workstyle

- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several versatile work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position and Pay Information

- Business Unit: Finance
- Union: Exempt
- Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 24 months)
- Compensation: Level M2 $133,008 - 166,260 per annum
- Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week earning 1 day off in a 3-week cycle.
