JOB PURPOSE: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports the delivery of comprehensive nursing care within a family medicine clinic setting. Working in collaboration with family physicians and reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, customer service, and administrative support to promote efficient clinic operations. The LPN is expected to maintain high standards of professionalism, patient safety, and confidentiality at all times.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Medical Duties Performs a variety of clinical interventions and medical procedures, as authorized by the physician and within the LPN’s scope of practice, including but not limited to:

Assisting with minor surgical procedures, pelvic examinations, and IUD insertions/removals





Performing point-of-care testing as ordered by the physician, including urinalysis, blood glucose testing, and pregnancy testing

Administering injections and vaccinations

Applying dressings, tensor bandages, splints, and slings

Removing sutures and staples

Performing ear irrigation

Initiating oxygen therapy under physician direction

Obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, and visual acuity measurements

Assembling and maintaining required sterile equipment and supplies

Maintaining the orderly storage and appropriate disposal of clinic supplies

Adhering to established standards of cleanliness and safety

Administrative Duties Greeting and registering patients in a professional and courteous manner

Scheduling appointments and notifying patients as required

Escorting patients to examination rooms and preparing them for physician assessment as required

Accurately documenting all procedures and interventions in the patient chart

Scanning and filing patient documentation as required

Receiving, sorting, and distributing mail and faxes as appropriate

Completing daily, weekly, and monthly assigned chores

Initiating forms, preparing billings, and collecting payment for uninsured services

Participating in the orientation and training of new staff and students





Maintaining an understanding of physician preferences and workflows in order to provide effective support

Demonstrating alignment with the organization’s purpose and core values in daily practice

Actively participating in organizational initiatives

Performing other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of a two-year LPN diploma from an accredited institution

Current registration and good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta

Minimum one year of customer service experience

Experience using EMR software, such as Med Access

Strong communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills

Solid clinical, customer service, and organizational skills

Ability to handle confidential information in accordance with the Health Information Act and organizational privacy policies

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel

Current CPR certification at the Health Care Provider (BLS) level is required
