Lighting Technician – Touring Show Stage Lighting Full-Time Position Please note that this position is for you to tour internationally full-time and to work in foreign countries.
- We are seeking a Lighting Technician to join one of Cirque du Soleil’s touring shows. Reporting to the Technical Director and working under the supervision of the Head of Department, Visuals, this role is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of all Lighting and Video systems, ensuring show quality, consistency, and safety across performances. The ideal candidate is a multi-skilled technician with proven experience in lighting, video/projection, and special effects within large-scale live entertainment, with strong troubleshooting skills and the flexibility to operate show tracks across multiple visual disciplines.
The Lighting Technician Will Have The
Prospect To Operate and run show tracks during rehearsals, performances, and artist training sessions.
Participate in the load-in, set-up, tear-down, and load-out of department systems, including cross-departmental support during city transfers; lead or supervise local crew as required.
Support integration of visual systems with performer tracking, automation, and other technical departments.
Assist with pre-sets, cueing, and focusing of lighting and projection equipment.
Operate followspots, lighting consoles, video servers, and special effects systems during performances.
Participate in regular preventive maintenance, inspections, and real-time troubleshooting of all lighting, video, and effects equipment to ensure safe and consistent operations.
Train and supervise local followspot operators and technicians as needed.
Call and operate followspot cues during performances, ensuring timing and accuracy.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, modifications, repairs, maintenance logs, cue sheets, and inventory records.
Collaborate with the Head of Department to develop safe operating systems, preventive maintenance routines, and departmental procedures.
Contribute to special projects, including current equipment integration, upgrades, and technical initiatives.
Uphold the artistic integrity of the show in collaboration with the Head of Department, Artistic Department, and designers.
Collaborate with other technical departments during load-in, set-up, tear-down, load-out, rehearsals, performances, and emergency situations.
Assist with stock management, ordering, and upkeep of department materials, tools, and consumables.
Support contingency planning and respond quickly to technical issues during live shows.
Ensure compliance with Cirque du Soleil protocols, OSHA, and local safety regulations; always apply safe work practices.
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and safe working environment aligned with Cirque du Soleil’s values.
Perform other related duties as assigned The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: Required: Availability to tour internationally full-time and work in foreign countries.
College diploma in live entertainment, theatre production, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in live entertainment, with skills across lighting, video/projection, and/or special effects.
Strong technical knowledge of
Lighting systems (consoles, intelligent fixtures, dimming systems, followspots).
Video/projection systems (large-format projectors, lenses, video servers such as Disguise or Watchout, video capture/playback, networking).
Special effects systems (atmospherics, pyrotechnics, or other effects).
Networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, DMX, MIDI, Timecode).
Performer tracking systems (VYV, Blacktrax, Zactracks)
Electricity and electronics relevant to entertainment systems.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing visual systems under pressure in a live environment.
Ability to work at height; climbing and fall-arrest certification is an asset.
Positive general understanding of all technical aspects of a large-scale production; cross-departmental knowledge is an asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SOLIDWORKS) an asset.
Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting heavy equipment unassisted, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
