Nature of Position The Maintenance Lead plays a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of all KFS properties. This position combines hands-on maintenance expertise with leadership responsibilities, including supervising staff, coordinating contractors, and supporting facilities operations across multiple sites.

The role is responsible for ensuring buildings, grounds, and systems are maintained to a high standard, while also supporting tenant satisfaction, safety compliance, and organizational goals. The Maintenance Lead works both independently and collaboratively, providing guidance to team members and contributing to planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of maintenance services.

Work may be performed in all weather conditions and may include working alone in accordance with WorkSafeBC procedures. This role is well suited for someone who values community, supports safe and respectful spaces, and is comfortable working in Indigenous and nonprofit environments.

Key Responsibilities The Maintenance Lead is responsible for a broad range of maintenance, operational, and supervisory duties, including but not limited to:

Operational & Supervisory Support

- Respond to tenant concerns in a timely, professional, and respectful manner
- Assist the Facilities Management team in maintaining buildings and grounds
- Provide leadership, training, and support to Maintenance Technicians
- Oversee and coordinate contractors, service providers, and external vendors
- Collaborate with Manager of Facilities, Property Administrator, and Housing Assistant to support KFS asset operations
- Assist in supervising snow removal contracts, groundskeeping, and outdoor maintenance
- Support building beautification initiatives, including painting and decorating projects
- Assist in overseeing maintenance and capital projects from planning through completion
- Participate in an on-call rotation as required
- Assist with coordination of office and facility moves

Maintenance & Technical Work
- Perform inspections of building mechanical, electrical,



and life safety systems
- Identify deficiencies and complete or recommend corrective actions
- Perform repairs to building equipment, fixtures, and appliances independently
- Carry out general indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks, including:
- Groundskeeping (lawn care, pruning, debris removal, pressure washing)
- Basic plumbing and carpentry repairs
- Minor hardware repair (locks, hinges, handles)
- Safely operate tools and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting issues

Safety, Compliance & Security
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and organizational safety policies
- Assist in supervising the operation and maintenance of life safety systems
- Participate as member of the Health and Safety Committee
- Conduct inspections, complete checklists, and support hazard remediation
- Ensure proper operation of building security systems and key control procedures
- Report hazards, incidents, and safety concerns promptly

Seasonal & General Duties
- Support seasonal maintenance including snow removal, salting, and weather preparation
- Assist with event setup, material movement, and general labour tasks as needed
- Participate in company traditions, events, and community activities

Qualifications Education & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in a lead role
- Experience overseeing contractors, vendors, or small teams preferred
- Experience working in community-based, Indigenous-serving, or nonprofit environments is an asset

ensuring maintenance activities are carried out with respect for community spaces, cultural protocols, and the well‑being of children, community members, and staff.
- Strong working knowledge of building maintenance practices, including mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems
- Ability to conduct inspections, identify issues, and complete or recommend corrective actions
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and asset care
- Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations and ability to apply them in daily operations
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support staff
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including tenant relations
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities, projects, and contractors effectively
- Familiarity with building security systems and key control procedures
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to maintaining a protected, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment
- Reliable, professional, and respectful in all interactions

Certifications (Required or Willingness to Obtain)
- Occupational First Aid (Level 1 or higher)
- WHMIS certification
- Additional certifications (e.g., Fall Protection, Confined Space, Fire/Life Safety Systems) are assets
- Willingness to complete ongoing training and company-supported education

Work Conditions
- Ability to perform physical labour, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and follow working-alone procedures
- Some evening, weekend, and on-call work is required based on operational needs

Requirements
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence with acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- Satisfactory completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
