Operational Risk & Governance Analyst
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Duration: August 3, 2026 – April 30, 2027
Schedule: Monday to Friday, Core Business Hours
Pay Rate: $35/hour (T4)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Currently 2 days onsite; subject to change. Candidates must be flexible).
About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading Canadian bank, is seeking an experienced Operational Risk & Governance Analyst to support ongoing business-as-usual (BAU) initiatives within a dynamic risk management team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience with a top-tier financial institution while working closely with senior stakeholders and contributing to key risk and governance programs.
What You'll Do The successful candidate will support the Key Indicator Program and help ensure adherence to Operational Risk Management (ORM) policies and standards. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting periodic key risk indicator (KRI) dashboard submissions and reporting
- Engaging with senior leadership to facilitate timely risk reporting
- Managing onboarding and maintenance of Key Risk Indicators
- Responding to second-line reviews and challenges promptly
- Assessing Key Risk Indicators and identifying opportunities to enhance the program
- Designing and executing control testing programs to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls
- Applying appropriate sampling methodologies in alignment with testing guidelines
- Conducting ongoing testing of key controls and requirements
- Analyzing, reporting, and tracking control exceptions through resolution
- Partnering with business stakeholders to develop remediation plans and address control gaps
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiencies, and strengthen controls
- Supporting risk and control initiatives, projects, and ad hoc requests
- Building strong relationships across teams and promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration
Required Qualifications
- University degree
- 4-7 years of relevant experience in:
- Risk Management
- Governance & Controls
- Audit
- Compliance
- Robust understanding of governance, risk, and control frameworks
- Experience with audit, quality control testing, or banking testing methodologies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly:
Excel
PowerPoint
Word
Visio
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders and senior leaders
- Comfortable presenting findings and recommendations to executive audiences
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information
Preferred Experience
- Banking or financial services experience
- Strong governance and risk mindset
- Knowledge of business processes and operational controls
- Understanding of Wholesale Banking operations and processes
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools
Nice-to-Have
- PowerApps experience
