D-Wave is a leader in the development and delivery of quantum computing systems, software, and services. It is the world’s first commercial supplier of quantum computers, offering both annealing and gate‑model quantum technologies. About the Role

We are looking for a creative, energetic, and self‑motivated Experimental Physicist to join our Processor Development (PD) team. The PD team is composed of experienced superconducting circuit designers, fabrication engineers, software developers, and physicists who work together to create the processors at the heart of our quantum computer and continuously push the boundaries of future technology. What You’ll Do Develop and execute experimental procedures to quantify, understand, and operate a wide range of superconducting devices.

Generate new ideas to improve processor operation or performance and develop parametric designs to implement them. Develop theoretical models and simulations to represent and understand experimental results on physical devices. Create analysis routines to fit theoretical models to data and detect outlier behavior in large, complex systems of superconducting devices.

Document experimental results clearly for the broader processor development team. Contribute to LISP software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating, and operating processors. Collaborate effectively with internal teams at D-Wave, including marketing, intellectual property, applications development, and engineering.

Required

Ph.D. or M.Sc. in physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experience.

Strong critical thinking and technical problem‑solving skills. Independent research skills and evidence of deep understanding in your area of expertise.

Fast adaptation to recent technical topics. Strong software development experience related to experimental design, automation, data acquisition, and data analysis; willingness to learn new programming languages and concepts. Collaborative mindset and proven ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team across a wide range of problems.

Excellent communication skills and experience summarizing experimental results for a broad audience. Adaptability to shifting priorities in a time‑sensitive environment. Expertise in quantum information, digital or analog superconducting devices, device physics, noise models, or characterization is a plus.

Inclusion & Diversity

We celebrate diverse perspectives to drive innovation. Our employees range from distinguished domain experts to bright, motivated graduates, and we ensure an inclusive environment that supports career growth. Compensation

Base Pay Range: 123,000 – 169,000 CAD per year (Burnaby). EEO Statement

It is D‑Wave Systems Inc. policy to provide equal employment opportunity (EEO) to all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, physical or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state/provincial, local law.
