Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Government Relations Lead to spearhead FCC’s strategy across Western Canada, enhancing relationships with federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous and industry stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of government relations strategies aligned with FCC priorities
- Build and sustain strategic relationships with federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous and industry stakeholders
- Advise senior executives on political, public policy, parliamentary and stakeholder issues
- Anticipate emerging legislative, regulatory and parliamentary developments that could impact FCC
- Lead government relations support for parliamentary affairs, ministerial requests and committee activities
- Lead the development of executive briefings, presentations and strategic advice materials
- Represent FCC in meetings, consultations and stakeholder forums
- Collaborate with internal teams to align engagement activities, government‑facing materials and external messaging
- Identify opportunities to advance FCC’s public policy objectives and strengthen relationships across government and industry
- Provide functional leadership within the Government Relations team, fostering collaboration, strategic thinking and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, communications, business administration, law or a related discipline
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively senior experience in government relations, public policy, parliamentary affairs, stakeholder relations or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Extensive knowledge of government, parliamentary, legislative and public policy processes
- Strong understanding of the political, regulatory and stakeholder environment affecting the agriculture and agri‑food sector
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to senior executives on complex, sensitive or high‑profile issues
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex government relations strategies across multiple jurisdictions and stakeholder groups
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior government officials and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise government relations strategies or stakeholder engagement plans
- Experience influencing public policy development or legislative initiatives
- Experience preparing executive briefings, presentations and strategic materials
- Experience supporting parliamentary affairs, ministerial requests or committee‑related activities
- Experience advising senior leaders on sensitive, complex or high‑profile public policy issues
- Experience leading cross‑functional initiatives involving multiple business lines
- Experience working within or alongside Crown corporations, financial institutions or the agriculture and agri‑food sector
