The

BC Association of Community Response Networks (BC CRN) , is a provincial non-profit organization dedicated to helping create safe, inclusive communities where vulnerable adults are respected, valued, and protected. The organization supports local Community Response Networks (CRNs) across British Columbia through education, advocacy, collaboration, and community engagement to help prevent and address adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect.

A Community Response Network brings together community members, service providers, organizations, and other stakeholders to promote awareness, strengthen local supports, and encourage a coordinated response to concerns affecting adults who may be vulnerable to harm. BC CRN supports almost 100 local networks serving communities throughout the province.

SCOPE OF WORK The Regional Mentor – Fraser Valley West is an important regional resource and support for CRNs in the Tri-City, Burnaby, New Westminster and Maple Ridge area. As a mentor, you will be providing support and guidance following a Collective Impact model through community development and education; working with direct response agencies, community partners and volunteers; participating in community initiatives; and assisting CRN Coordinators in creating community response resources for your region.

SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE

Supporting existing CRNs within a designated geographic area and/or with a specific demographic by engaging in regular contact with CRN Coordinators.





Assisting with and supporting the development of inter-agency and community protocols to help guide the local coordinated community response to adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect.

Supporting the local CRN(s) with projects and events that spread the word on prevention and abuse, neglect and self-neglect issues, and ensuring that programs are made available to CRNs in the region and, where necessary, supporting their implementation.

Assisting CRNs with funding applications, managing meetings and reporting requirements.

Assisting and/or supporting each local CRN in reporting, including reporting activities and participation by both the CRN and the broader community, and use of funds.

Assisting or supporting CRNs to recruit new Coordinators and develop succession plans.

Conducting and/or overseeing the orientation of new Coordinators.

Conducting outreach to community agencies and ministries to encourage relationship-building in established CRNs and to assist in developing new CRNs.

Engaging in public education on the role of CRNs, prevention, abuse, neglect and self-neglect issues, including facilitating and delivering BC CRN workshops.

Participating in monthly team meetings and learning events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A post- secondary degree in the social sciences, health sciences or other applicable discipline or a comparable combination of education and experience.

At least five years’ experience working with a Community Response Network (CRN) and/or understanding of the CRN’s role in community and personal alignment with BC CRN’s values and

Demonstrated experience/education in community engagement, collective impact, and leadership, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.





Extensive knowledge of the region of the province in which you will provide mentorship.

Knowledge of abuse, neglect and self-neglect and its impact on the safety of vulnerable adults.

Strong relationship building skills with individuals and organizations from multiple sectors within their community and/or region. For example: government ministries, health authority, police, community agencies, and the voluntary sector.

Demonstrated willingness to engage in allyship with Indigenous Peoples and an understanding of what it means to be an ally. This includes having knowledge of the effects of colonization and a robust understanding of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report.

Appreciation for and understanding of the lived experience of diverse communities including acknowledgement that diversity comes in many forms including but not limited to LGBTQ2S+, cultural, ethnic, BIPOC, faith-based, and physical and cognitive abilities.

Demonstrated competence in workshop facilitation.

Experience and competency in using technology and social media.

Experience working as a self-directed contractor from a home-based business.

TERMS

1.All Mentors are supported by the Director of Operations.

2.All contracts are based on the fiscal year (April 1 – March 31) and can be terminated at any time with 30 days notice.

3.This position starts at 60 hours per month and can grow as the number of Community Response Networks in the area increases.

4.Mentors are paid $48.53 per hour and are contracted for a set number of hours a month which can be spread unevenly throughout the year with any hours exceeding that being subject to approval.

5.The position requires access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to travel for short periods of time. Mileage is reimbursed at a set rate.
