Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. The RN at LDDI is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. Care is also provided in the ambulatory setting directed towards meeting both the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient.
The RN supports patient safety, monitors sedation, assists the endoscopist during procedures, and participates in emergency response and recovery care. The RN adheres to the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Accreditation Canada (AC), the CPSO Out-of-Hospital Premises (OHP) program, and organizational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct nursing assessments and review patient histories.
- Confirm informed consent and ensure proper pre-procedure preparation.
- Provide patient education on procedure expectations, bowel preparation, sedation, and recovery.
- Collaborate with endoscopist and team regarding ASA classification and inclusion/exclusion criteria
- Assist with endoscopic procedures (gastroscopy, colonoscopy).
- Monitor and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, and level of consciousness.
- Administer medications by IV or inhalation under physician delegation and supervision.
- Recognize and respond to adverse reactions (e.g., hypoxia, bleeding, allergic reaction, aspiration).
- Monitor patients until discharge criteria are met.
- Provide post-procedure education and discharge instructions.
- Assess for and manage post-procedure complications.
- Ensure patient comfort and safe transfer to discharge or follow-up.
Experience
- 1-2 years of recent experience in ambulatory care, endoscopy, or perioperative setting preferred.
- Experience with IV therapy, conscious sedation, and emergency protocols an asset.
- ACLS certification (preferred or required within probationary period).
- Familiarity with Accuro electronic health record system is highly preferred
Education
- Current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
