School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and lifelong achievement of students.

The Relief Wellness

Nurse works shifts on an as needed basis where they respond to Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 student and parent concerns.

The Relief

Nurse will require strong clinical and emergency skills, as well as experience working with youth. Our nurses are required to be current members of the Ontario College of Nurses.

What You’ll Do

Collaborates with Student Well-being Department to ensure the health needs of students are met In collaboration with the overall student well-being framework, ensures processes and systems are in place to run an effective Wellness Centre within a school environment

Creates and documents processes to ensure:

That appropriate health data is collected for students and employees as per legislation

Where and how data/records are stored, in liaison with the School’s privacy policies and Privacy Officer

Day to day creation and management of data/records

Retention and destruction plans for health data in a systematic manner using appropriate electronic databases

Parameters of confidentiality are set, as directed by the Dean of Student Well-being





Provides nursing individualized care for day and Boarding students in the Wellness Centre

Attends to health emergencies in the school and EMS calls

Communicates and collaborates in a timely manner with other Student Well-being team members and senior leaders where necessary on student care, as well as parents, student supporters and their external medical specialists

Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner and advocates for students

Identifies students with health challenges from annual medical forms and/or parent and/or student communication at the beginning of the school year

Engages in medication practices, such as dispensing medication, storage, inventory management and disposal

Administers annual flu shots under a Medical Directive and other vaccinations

Engages in medical testing as required

Encourages students to participate in decisions affecting their care

Who You Are

Nurse with related post-secondary education, practicing in accordance with standards of nursing practice and relevant legislation

Currently registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Experience working with youth preferably in an educational setting

Strong clinical skills and emergency experience, ability to work in an independent practice setting preferred

Applicable knowledge and experience from nursing and the physical, behavioural,



public health or social sciences to meet the unique needs of students and parents in the school community

Demonstrated understanding of the ethical framework that influences the nursing function

Experience employing relationship building, counselling techniques and crisis intervention strategies with individuals and groups

Strong verbal and written interpersonal skills to interface with students, families and staff A warm, caring rapport with students

Culturally competent with a positive attitude toward cultural uniqueness, as well as a readiness to accept and respect others

Salary: $43.00/hour
