Role Description The Research Contracts Analyst is a full-time, on-site role based in Hamilton, ON. This position is responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating research-related agreements, including clinical trial contracts, grant agreements, service contracts, and confidentiality agreements.
The role involves assessing contract terms for compliance with institutional policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards, as well as identifying and mitigating financial, legal, and operational risks. The analyst collaborates closely with researchers, legal counsel, finance, and departmental leadership to ensure timely execution of agreements and alignment with project goals. Day-to-day tasks include managing contract workflows, maintaining accurate records, tracking key milestones and obligations,
and providing guidance to internal stakeholders on contract processes and requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in contract review, drafting, and negotiation, with a focus on research agreements and clinical trial contracts.
- Knowledge of research governance, ethics, privacy, and regulatory compliance in a healthcare or academic setting.
- Proficiency in legal and financial risk assessment, including understanding of indemnity, intellectual property, budgeting, and payment terms.
- Experience with project and process management, including tracking workflows, deadlines, and documentation in contract management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain contract terms, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and prepare transparent documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills to interpret complex agreements and identify inconsistencies or gaps.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple contracts and priorities effectively.
- Bachelor’s degree in law, business, health administration, or a related field; a paralegal or legal studies credential, or experience in legal/contracts roles, is considered an asset.
- Experience in a hospital, academic, or research institution environment and familiarity with funding agencies or industry sponsors is beneficial.
