As Senior Communications & Engagement Specialist, you'll oversee planning, development, and execution of communications and engagement strategies for complex, multi-interest-holder projects, often serving as Project Lead for specialists, coordinators, and contractors. Client & Interest-Holder Leadership
Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for key and complex client accounts
Build and maintain senior-level relationships with clients, Indigenous Nations, government representatives, and community partners
Set communication standards and provide first-line quality review of junior team members' work
Lead copywriting, editing, and formatting of complex deliverables and high-profile client-facing materials Community Engagement
Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of complex or high-profile community engagement activities
Oversee logistics for workshops, open houses, and community events, representing the organization at these events
Facilitate workshops, focus groups, and public engagement activities, including higher-risk sessions
Lead preparation of engagement reports and consultation records, ensuring accuracy and defensibility Strategic Communications & Storytelling
Lead development of communication plans, messaging frameworks, and content strategies
Craft and refine messaging that communicates impact and resonates with diverse audiences
Set the standard for quality and tone across web, newsletters, social media, and client communications
Advise leadership on presentations, reports, and talking points for high-stakes audiences Digital Engagement & Design
Guide execution of social media content and content calendars across assigned projects
Design visually compelling reports, infographics, and presentations using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
Translate complex or technical information into clear, audience-appropriate visuals Mentorship & Team Leadership
Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and quality review to project team members and contractors
Contribute to resourcing, workload planning, and process improvements
Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture We're Looking for Someone Who...
You've built a career on strong communications and engagement fundamentals and are ready to lead, setting strategy, mentoring others, and owning outcomes on complex projects. You'll likely be successful if you have:
7–10 years of experience in communications, marketing, or engagement, including leading strategic programs independently
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Community Development, or a related discipline (an equivalent combination of education, professional training, and progressively responsible experience may be considered)
Demonstrated experience leading communication strategy and content plans for complex, multi-interest-holder projects
Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising junior communications staff or contractors A strong understanding of inclusive communication practices, accessibility, and culturally appropriate engagement
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior client and community representatives
Training or certification in IAP2 engagement practices, OCAP, or GBA+ is considered a strong asset, as is experience with Indigenous Nations, local governments, or public consultation processes.

Most work can be completed from our Creston office, your home office, or a hybrid arrangement. Because we work directly with communities and clients across BC, occasional travel (approximately 15–25%) is part of this role, including community meetings and occasional overnight travel within Western Canada.
