The Child and Youth Mental Health Program Social Worker conducts mental health and/or risk assessments, participates in case management and delivers psychoeducational and evidence- based interventions as treatment to individuals, families and groups. Modalities may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and family therapy.

The Social Worker is responsible to ensure care is coordinated by participating in clinical and administrative meetings both internal in the program and hospital as well as externally with other hospitals, schools and community-based mental health providers.

The Social

Worker contributes to new and ongoing research and quality assurance projects.

The Social

Worker may provide education to the public and other professionals on issues relevant to the field of child and youth mental health.

The Social

Worker may also be expected to provide field education to social work students.

The Social

Worker will primarily work under CYMH Outpatient Services at Ron Joyce but may be expected to provide assistance to other services under the CYMH Program at both MUMC and RJCHC site on occasion. Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work

Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

Specific training in the following evidence-based interventions:



Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy

Minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience in pediatric mental health setting providing evident-based modalities (i.e., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing) within a pediatric mental health population

Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act

Demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and engaging in crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and families

Demonstrated expertise and robust knowledge base in the occurrence and rage of child and youth mental health disorders and difficulties Expert knowledge of local and regional community-based resources to aid with assessment, transition planning, and discharge

Experience triaging new referrals

Demonstrated proficiency in report writing related to assessment, consultation and treatment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

Problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills

Ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team

Fluency in French is considered an asset
