The Sr. Backend SDET will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of backend services that power Pickup and Delivery checkout experiences. This role leads test automation strategy, drives quality maturity, and mentors junior QA team members across a suite of event-driven Java/Spring Boot microservices .

They will work closely with developers, product managers, and the QA Center of Excellence to maintain client’s quality standards — including ≥90% unit test coverage, ≥85% automation coverage, and ≥85% automation health on CI/CD pipelines — while delivering zero-rollback releases.

Must Have Skills:

- Test Automation Framework : Karate BDD (primary), with migration experience from YAAPITA or similar frameworks
- Programming Language : Java 17 (reading, writing, and debugging test code)
- Build Tools : Maven (mvnw wrapper)
- API Testing : REST Assured, Postman, OAuth2/Okta token automation
- CI/CD : GitHub Actions (pipeline integration of automated test suites)
- Source Control : GitHub SaaS (branching, PRs, code review)
- Code Quality : SonarQube (interpreting coverage reports, enforcing ≥90% unit test coverage)
- Security Scanning : Snyk (identifying and triaging Critical/High vulnerabilities)
- Test Management : Qmetry (test case management, traceability, reporting)
- Event Streaming : Azure Event Hub / DESP (Kafka) — ability to validate event-driven flows
- Database : Microsoft SQL Server, Cosmos DB (test data setup and validation queries)
- Monitoring & Observability :



Dynatrace (correlating test failures with service health)
- Containerization : Docker (running services locally for test execution)
- Artifact Management : Jfrog Artifactory

Soft Skills:

- Mentorship : Ability to coach and uplift junior QA engineers on automation best practices
- Cross-functional communication : Clearly articulate quality risks, test results, and release readiness to engineering managers, product managers, and leadership
- Analytical thinking : Identify high-risk areas, root-cause flaky tests, and prioritize test coverage based on risk
- Ownership & accountability : Drive quality outcomes end-to-end without requiring oversight
- Agile fluency : Active participation in sprint ceremonies (planning, refinement, retro, demo) with accurate QA effort estimation

Nice to have Skills:

- Performance Testing : JMeter, Gatling, or k6 (load/stress testing of backend services)
- Mobile/Device Testing : Kotlin + Espresso, Appium (ePOS apps run on TC57/TC52 Zebra devices)
- E2E Orchestration : Experience coordinating cross-team E2E test execution across multiple domains
- Infrastructure as Code : Terraform, Helm charts (understanding deployment pipelines)
- Kubernetes : Familiarity with AKS/Rancher for debugging test setting issues
- Scripting : Python or Bash for test utilities and data generation
- Data Streaming Validation : Confluent Schema Registry, Apache Avro (validating DESP event schemas)
- Reporting Tools : Report Portal, Grafana (test result dashboards)
- Contract Testing : Pact or Spring Cloud Contract
- Android Emulators : Android Studio for local ePOS app validation
